Organic Milk Giveaway

There has been a big scandal going on in my state of Ohio. The department of agriculture has been lobbying to have “rBST free” and “hormone free” labeling removed from milk. The dairy producers say that such labels make the milk “with” hormones look bad and it shouldn’t be allowed. Never mind the fact that as a consumer I have a right to know what I am drinking and rBST has been banned in Europe based upon a link to cancer. Our lovely US government sees this as no big deal though…as long as money is being made.

Organic milk though is once again the shining star because organic certification prevents hormones from being used so even if the label doesn’t say hormone free…it will say organic and you know you will be drinking a safer product. I also saw recently that Horizon (although not my preferred milk company) is selling organic milk plus DHA. They are adding some of those Omega 3 Fatty Acids that are so good for heart, brain, and eye health. Their milk boxes for kids are a lifesaver for school lunches too.

Reasons why organic milk is better:

1. No antibiotics

2. No synthetic hormones

3. No harmful pesticides

4. High in Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLAs) or good fats

5. Organic is sustainable

If you not eating organic 100% milk should be one of the first transition foods. I have 3 coupons for any one Horizon Organics product up to $4.99 in value. This would be more than enough to pick up a half gallon of organic milk for your kids. It could also be used for cheese, yogurt, milk boxes, etc. Just leave a comment if you want one and I will choose 3 winners on Friday.

Edited: Here are the winners!

I want to comment, but you can keep the coupon. I’d rather have it go to someone who is trying the milk for the first time or really needs it.

My comment– Horizon now produces a Lactose-free reduced fat milk for those who have issues with lactose tolerance!

    Tiffany,
What about local milk. Is that better than organic? I use Horizon so please give the coupon to someone who has never tried it before. I’ve consider going local and they don’t use anitbotics or hormones but they aren’t cerified organic because of the cost. They use the glass milk jugs and deliver to my home.

  4. Eileen says:

I just found the Horizon milk boxes for my daughter’s lunch. Would love a coupon since the half gallon’s of Horizon’s Organic milk cost more than a gallon of the milk we usually buy. Thanks so much for all the great info on your website!

  5. Tiffany says:

    Sommer,

It probably would be better. Talking to the actual person producing your food is a huge benefit. I get raw, organic (though not certified) milk locally too. LOVE it.

  6. Amberly says:

I just found out I am pregnant for the first time and although we have been switching over to whole/organics for the last year or so, I am now more adament than ever to continue making the switch. I’ve never gone the organic milk route, but I’m certainly up for trying!!!

  7. Angela says:

  9. Nicole Mc says:

THE NERVE!!! They honestly think that we should NOT KNOW!! Of course if makes them look bad…that makes me sooo angry!! I use a local organic milk company…and it tastes soooooo good. And like you said, it is the perfect transition item. It was my first!!

  10. Raleigh says:

Because organic milk is so expensive, I buy 365 (Whole Foods) brand milk, which is close in price to regular grocery store milk and rBST & antibiotic free. The organic milk is about $2 more per gallon. I haven’t seen advocates of organic milk address this option, so I wonder if this milk also has the higher amounts of good fats that fully organic milk has. I strongly feel it’s worth it to buy the antibiotic and hormone free milk, and I do the same with yogurt and butter, but I’m not certain it’s worth the extra cost for the organic. And yeah, I’d like the coupons. Thanks

  11. Melinda S says:

I have never tried any Organic milk product….only yogurts!! So, this would be nice to try…..my boys are big milk drinkers!

  12. Sarah says:

I love Organic Yogurt and I really want to switch to Organic Milk. We are on WIC so we get milk and cheese for free. That is hard to pass up when you are on a budget. Would love to try some though! I bet it’s fabulous. The yogurt is so yummy!

  13. Brooke says:

This same thing happened in our state (PA) instead of the labels “rBST free” being removed, they were allowed and those milk producers can now become certified. One reason why people may want to look for natural, instead of organic milks, is due to “ultra-pasteurization” that is on almost every organic milk label. Ultra pasteurization heats the milk up even higher then normal pasteurization breaking up the proteins even more. My daughter can’t drink it even though she doesn’t have any issues with any other dairy product.

  14. Sonali says:

you can print online coupons for organic stuff from this site. It has coupons for Organic milk too.

  15. Sara says:

We currently drink “local” milk and I feel so lucky to have this program. We buy our milk in returnable glass bottles and can see the cows grazing in the field as we drive up. They say the milk you buy is less than 24 hours from the cow! Unfortunately we are moving to a new community soon that does not have this program. I would love to have a coupon so that I can start the switch to organic milk. Thanks!

  16. Christy says:

I would love to win some coupons. We only drink organic milk and I only feed the kiddos organic dairy products. Unfortunately this is a big blow to the budget. Thanks for offering this fun giveaway!

Organic milk was the first thing we switched to when we switched to a more organic way of eating. I still think it is one of the most important products to buy organic. So I would love to be entered into the drawing.

What great reviews on buying local milk. We participate in a local CSA and having my kids see the farm and meet the family (with kids) makes a huge connection for them. I’ll have to try the local milk. I’d bet it does taste good being so fresh. Yum.

  21. elena says:

I totally agree with you! If I’m going to buy a product I want to know what goes into it. I don’t want nasty stuff in my milk. We switched to organic when I found out I was and know thats all we drink. We also make sure to buy it the carton so the lights don’t strip it of it’s vitamins . So are whole top shelf of our fridge is fill with at least 6 half gallons of milk on a weekly bases. Thanks for the info

  22. stacey says:

i agree, it is a good and easy start to switching over to organic! i would love free organic products!! :)

  23. Amanda says:

I switched over to only organic milk about a year ago. The price tag hurts, but I still feel good about it. I’d be happy to use those coupons!

  24. Amberlynn says:

The labelling issue is happening all over the country, and I find it infuriating. They’ve also outlawed raw milk in Oregon. !

There actually is an issue with organic milk as well, as many companies are getting away with labeling their milk as organic, when in fact they are not. The Organic Consumer’s Association (organicconsumers.org) has done an excellent job in making available who the bad and good companies are, as well as taking legal issues with those that are skirting the law.

Oh, as I would not be able to use the coupons. I’m on WIC, and they don’t allow us to buy organic on WIC here in Oregon. (With my lactose issues, I drink milk alternatives most often anyway.)

  34. What is wrong with our government?!

I love me some organic dairy products. It was the first organic products we decided to purchase. We buy organic milk religously.

My husband wasn’t for it in the beginning because he thought it would cost too much, but in the grand scheme of things isn’t YOUR health worth the cost?! It sure it to us.

I’d love to win…thanks for the chance.

I just recently found your blog and I Love It!

I’m all about the organic stuff, I buy as much organic food as we can afford. Why does it cost more to buy the stuff that is good for you? Kinda backwards if you ask me.

We are currently buying local milk. It isn’t organic, but it is hormone free. It tastes great and I’m happy to know it comes from smaller, local producers, and hasn’t had to travel 1,000 miles to get to me.

  41. LaVelle says:

Although our family is on a tight budget, we try to buy organic and/or local whenever we can. Dairy is one of those areas we have tried to make organic only. Thank you for your blog and keeping us informed on other green ways to live!

  42. Leslie says:

My husband drinks milk like there’s no tomorrow and I’ve been trying to get him to swiitch. With the amount he consumes it could really take a toll on our wallet! Plus, my baby boy is about to turn 1 and we are SO going to buy organic. I’ve also been weighing the benefits of goat milk…but a coupon for organic milk would be a great savings. Thanks.

  43. Colleen Dabler says:

    great information

  44. Theresa N. says:

I’d love to try this milk.

  45. Laura says:

We are so tight on money right now, and I ONLY buy organic milk for my son because he deserves the best…I don’t know how much longer we can shell out the $4.39 charged at the supermarket…we go through at least 2-3 half gallons a week…he drinks alot, which makes his bad eating habits a little more tolerable…I would be greatful for a coupon!

  46. Kansas Mom says:

We love Horizons milk, though we usually opt for the store brand (also organic). I’d love a coupon!
