Before my hospitalization I had the rare chance to see a movie in the theatres. I chose Blood Diamond with Leonardo Dicaprio. I just love Leo for his environmental passions but the topic of conflict diamonds has always concerned me…I haven’t purchased or accepted diamonds in over a decade because I could not be sure where they “really” came from.

Anyway, I LOVED the movie. The dialogue was wonderful, the topic was important, the acting was superb, and it made me laugh and cry. I would recommend it to anyone because it is not only a great movie but the topic is STILL important.

The diamond trade has fueled civil wars and destroyed countries, killing close to 4 million people and displacing millions more. AND it is still going on today! Global Witness and Amnesty International recently reported that $23 million worth of blood diamonds are being smuggled each year from the Ivory Coast of Africa and sold worldwide. That rock around your neck or finger may have cost someone their life…does that bother you? It sure would bother me.

Well it may not seem like much but go ahead and tell Congress that conflict diamonds are NOT acceptable! Care2 has a petition going around right now so go ahead and sign it today.

    Hi Tiffany,
I saw the Blood Diamond movie also. I recommend it also it is done very well.
I have not seen any movies with Leonardo before because I never took him seriously as an actor….I know I’m not that modern :)

Anyway, he was AMAZING in this movie. He did a fantastic job. I am unable to watch the violent scenes in movies so I had to cover my eyes through parts of the movie because of the violence. I just can’t stand to put that imagery in my head. Even with the violence I still really liked the movie.

    Regards,
    Erin
