Did you know that peppermint is a natural mice repellent? Mice are repelled by the scent of Peppermint Essential Oil offering a safe and humane way to get rid of mice! To use this natural mice deterrent just put a few drops of essential oil on cotton balls and put them in various places around the house. Get aggressive in areas where you have seen mice.
You can also apply directly in some areas or make a water/essential oil spray. As long as the scent remains then mice should stay away. It is best to reapply every 3 weeks or so.

Thanks for posting this. It was one of two sources I checked when trying to remember if it was peppermint or spearmint that acted as a deterrent for mice. If someone would want you to backup the statement, you could always refer them to the other site I’d found:
